Your wedding is almost here!
You’ve covered the essentials, like your venue, photographer, caterer, and fiance (of course!). Now, it’s time to finalize all the details that will complete your wedding day. Top on the list of wedding day details is confirming your hair and makeup artists for the bride, groom, bridesmaids, and the rest of your wedding party!
Assuming you’ve already chosen your hair and makeup artist (Is it us? We hope it’s us!), you need to work out a few more details before you can officially book them.
Believe it or not, your hair and makeup artists need a lot of details to ensure your wedding day runs smoothly! But the last thing we want is for you to feel overwhelmed by questions and details while chatting with your stylist or filling out an inquiry form.
So we’ve written this blog post to tell you everything you need to know before you book your wedding party hair and makeup artists.
Oh, and us? We’re Luna Beauty and Bridal, an award-winning bridal hair and makeup team in Austin, Texas. We specialize in creating soft glam wedding looks for celebrants of all shapes, sizes, and identities. We aim to create a wedding day experience that leaves you feeling confident, carefree, and beautiful.
What To Know When Booking Your Hair And Makeup For Your Wedding
This isn’t an all-encompassing list, because each bridal hair and makeup artist team will require different information. But we’ve been doing this for over ten years, so I think it’s safe to say we know the basics!
So take notes! Here are the four most important things your wedding day hair and makeup artists need to know.
Your Wedding Date
This one is pretty self-explanatory. When you inquire with us, or any wedding hair and makeup team, you must have your wedding date!
Here at Luna Beauty and Bridal, we book over a year in advance. So if you know your wedding date, and you know you want us to do your hair and makeup, inquire now! But keep reading to make sure you’re ready to answer all the questions we will ask.
How Many People Require Hair And Makeup Services
This question directly correlates to how many people are in your wedding party and which of them will want professional hair and makeup!
Sometimes people in the wedding party prefer to DIY their wedding makeup and hair. Personally, we think weddings are the perfect excuse to get dolled up. But be sure to ask your wedding party and get an accurate number of how many people will need hair and makeup services!
Now, think outside of your immediate wedding party. We also offer makeup for the mother of the bride, mother of the groom, and flower children!
Here is a list of people you should ask about hair and makeup services before inquiring:
Bride
Groom (Yes! We offer light makeup and hairstyling for men!)
Bridesmaids
Groomsmen
Mother of the Bride
Mother of the Groom
Grandparents
Siblings who are not in the wedding party
Flower Children
Ring Bearers
Keep in mind that you can request hair-only or makeup-only services. Before you book your wedding hair and makeup artists, you must have an accurate count of how many people want hair-only services, makeup-only services, or both.
This helps us determine what time we need to arrive at your venue to make sure your wedding ceremony starts on time!
The Timeline Of Your Wedding Day
Hopefully, you’ll have a general idea of your wedding day timeline by the time you book your wedding hair and makeup artists. But if not, we can help you create one!
Your wedding day timeline accounts for how many people receive hair and makeup services, the drive to your venue (if you aren’t getting ready there), any photos, time to eat, etc. All these details come together to create an organized, stress-free wedding day.
When booking your hair and makeup artists, you need to know these two things:
What time all services need to be completed by
What time we have access to your getting-ready location
If you plan on having a late morning or early afternoon ceremony, we will need to begin your hair and makeup process early. This is especially true if you have a large bridal party all wanting professional hair or makeup.
Even if your ceremony is in the late afternoon or evening, you might have a little more time to sleep in - but not much. The sooner your hair and makeup are finished, the more time you have for photos, wedding rituals, and mingling with guests!
Plus, some of our favorite photos from wedding days are pictures of the celebrants getting ready with the people they love the most. Whether you choose to get ready with your partner or with your friends and family, getting-ready photos capture the joy and excitement of your wedding day!
Your Venue
Will you be getting ready at your home or at your venue? Some venues offer on-site suites where you can prepare for your day and store all of your belongings. Inquire with your venue to see if this is something they offer!
When it comes to the morning of your wedding, be prepared to answer these questions:
Where will you be getting ready? The artists at Luna Beauty and Bridal love traveling with our clients, but additional fees may apply.
How far is your venue from where you will be getting ready? This gives us a hard cap of when we need to finish hair and makeup application. We pride ourselves on sticking to schedule and making sure all wedding attendants are on time for the ceremony!
How much space is there in your getting-ready location? Don’t worry, we’re not asking you to get out a tape measure and record the square footage. We just want to know how much space there will be for our team to set up.
Please take into account the number of bridesmaids, groomsmen, and other attendants! Larger wedding parties will require more space to get ready for the big day.
What is the light like in your getting-ready location? The more natural light, the better! But rest assured, we come prepared with ring lights to make sure your makeup looks flawless in every type of light.
Wedding Planner and/or Coordinator Contact Info
If you have a wedding planner or coordinator, we would LOVE to connect with them. This makes the wedding day run smoother for everyone. So much happens behind the scenes, and it works best if everyone is on the same page and can communicate easily.
You know the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child?” Well, your wedding is like a child, and it takes a village of professionals to create a beautiful, stress-free day!
